🏔️Such great heights 🍂 There’s no better time than right now to summit Wheeler Peak, New Mexico’s highest point (13,161 ft) and located in the wilderness surrounding our very own #TaosSkiValley! As we shift from summer to fall, the trail offers crisp mountain air, golden alpine meadows, and fewer afternoon storms—making for ideal hiking conditions. 🥾✨Here are some things to know before you go! 🗺️ Trail info:
📍 Williams Lake Trail to Wheeler Peak Summit
⏱️ ~8.5 miles round-trip
⬆️ ~2,900 ft elevation gain
🕒 ~4-6ish hours round trip (moderate — and strenuous if you want to pace it that way!) 🎒 What to Bring:
• Layers (temps drop fast at altitude!)
• Sun protection
• Plenty of water - bring more than you think (a backpack with a bladder is the easiest way to remember to sip without slowing down!)
• Snacks and we like a little more substantial lunch for the summit On the Trail:
🌲 Trek through subalpine forest
🌼 Spot late-blooming wildflowers
🐹 Keep an eye out for marmots and bighorn sheep
🏞️ Enjoy panoramic views of the Sangre de Cristo range and beyond at the summit—on clear days, you can see all the way to Colorado (keep a lookout for Blanca Peak!)
