This weekend @skitaos we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Ben Meyers @ridgeathon — hiking-to-ski West Basin and Highline Ridges (and why not Kachina?!) to raise funds for the Emergency Medicine Fund of the @taoscommunityfoundation.

Our community is built on grit, altitude, and heart — and this tradition pushes us a little higher each year so critical emergency care in Northern New Mexico can go further. Sign up’s still open at raisetheridge.org!

Leading into the weekend, that same spirit carries into tomorrow, Thursday, February 19 at 4:30pm, in the Taos Tent with @davehahn.climb’s slide show-and-tell.

David Hahn is one of the most accomplished high-altitude climbers in the world, with 15 summits of Mount Everest — more than any non-Sherpa climber in history — and decades of guiding experience from Alaska to Antarctica. As a longtime member of the Taos Ski Patrol, we’re lucky to call him one of our own.

As he told @taosnews, the mountains here still deliver the challenge he’s looking for — not just the Himalaya or Antarctica, but right here at Taos. Expect lessons on perseverance, teamwork, and decision-making in extreme environments — plus a healthy dose of inspiration.

@fieldinstituteoftaos, there’s one guiding principle: play outside. #FITaos has spent 30 years helping kids find confidence, connection, and belonging in wild places including our very own #TaosSkiValley— it’s not just where life happens… it’s where lives are changed!

We get to hear from founder @soozle_fiore and her indomitable team in a new short film by Lara Davis being screened tonight at the Backcountry Film Festival (6-9:30pm @daleeektaos), about how this idea born from a love of the great outdoors has grown into something so much greater than the sum of its @fitaos__bikes parts!

“When you’re out in nature, it’s so hands on,” Susie explains. “When [the kids] feel that, then they care — and then they want to protect and preserve all that beauty and life that’s out there. It’s not school. It’s just fun. And it’s not like, ‘We’re going to go for a hike.’ It’s like, ‘We’re gonna go up this trail and see what we find.’”

Summer camps, school partnerships (K–12), after-school bike clubs, MTB teams, Rio Fernando camps, leadership programs, and community rides — all designed to nurture curiosity, resilience, and a love of the outdoors. Summer programs are open to all campers, and during the school year FITaos partners with local K–12 schools. Scholarships and sliding-scale support are available, and no child is turned away for inability to pay.

There’s more weekend to LOVE! Begin tomorrow Friday, February 13 @daleeektaos for @fitaos96’s Backcountry Film Festival and fundraiser! The lineup includes films from around the world celebrating human-powered adventure and winter storytelling. Saturday starts sweet with @taoswintersportsteam’s Valentine’s Cookie & Cupcake Sale @skitaos’s Eis Haus (12–4pm) Just across the way, the Oyster Bar Pop-Up @rollingstilltaos’s TSV Lounge serves fresh Cougar Creek oysters from British Columbia from 3–6pm, paired with local spirits from @Taos’s award-winning distillery.

In town, @vivacwinery’s Valentine’s Day Dance (2–5pm) blends live music, wine, and chocolates, while the Community Blockprint Evening @wilde.ink @arroyosecolive in Arroyo Seco (3–6pm) offers hands-on creative energy. 🍫🍷

@skitaos breaks the ice with its first ever Lift Line Valentine on Friday, February 13 — an on-mountain matchmaking adventure where chairlift rides double as first dates. Rotate partners up Lift 7 (or 7A), share snowy views and easy turns, and see if flurries fly. An après social follows at base.

❄️☕ You don’t need to pull out all the stops to participate (big shout to our @teaography tea party for the steezy moves!) but do need to be comfortable on intermediate terrain. The rest is simple: show up, take a ride, and let the mountain work its magic!
