Comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) appearing in @Taos’s NW dark sky last night after sunset beside the @earthship Meditation Pyramid, making its descent to the horizon beside the Milky Way’s Galactic Center. 🔺☄️💚 DYK? Comets sometimes glow green because sunlight excites gases like diatomic carbon (C₂) and cyanogen (CN) in their coma. When those molecules calm down, they release green light — giving the comet its ghostly emerald hue. The tail usually stays pale, since those fragile gases burn off fast in sunlight! Nice air glow on her last night! As a point of comparison, Lemmon’s nucleus measures about 2.2 km across—significantly smaller compared to last October’s C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) with its 10–20 km core. Comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) is a long-period traveler, returning to our skies roughly once every 1,350 years. Yesterday it made its closest approach to Earth—about 90 million kilometers away—There are a few more nights of possible naked-eye viewing if the skies stay clear.
