Ski with a Ranger

Pioneer Lift, Taos Ski Valley
Wednesday, February 6, 2019

Meet at the bottom of the Pioneer Lift underneath or next to a giant green and white banner that reads ‘Ski with a Ranger’ at 1:00pm on Wednesdays.

As long you can comfortably handle the green slopes on the mountain (including Honeysuckle on the backside), you are welcome to join the group.

Due to the wide variety of interests of our tour participants, we take a casual and flexible approach to the topics we cover. Usually we talk about flora and fauna of the immediate mountain environment, history and culture of the area, history of the Forest Service, the Ski Area, the Village of Taos Ski Valley as well as the relationship between us. Almost always we talk about Wilderness with a capital ‘W’, natural resources, local rivers and watersheds, year-round recreational opportunities in the area and comment on the peaks, slopes and valleys we can see from our particular vantage point. And perhaps most important of all, we teach, emphasize and practice mountain safety!

Average duration of a tour is about an hour to an hour and a half.
